Ramaphosa Demands Israel Release South Africans, Other Nationals Abducted From Global Sumud Flotilla
"The interception of the Global Sumud Flotilla is another grave offence by Israel of global solidarity and sentiment that is aimed at relieving suffering in Gaza and advancing peace in the region," the president said.
Ramaphosa demanded to:
▪Allow the flotilla’s life-saving humanitarian cargo to reach the people of Gaza;
▪Respect international law, including the sovereignty of flag states and the ICJ’s injunction on unimpeded humanitarian aid;
▪Urgently lift the blockade on Gaza and permit humanitarian aid to enter by all possible means.
Among the flotilla participants was Nelson Mandela’s grandson Nkosi Zwelivelile, the president confirmed.
Zwelivelile has been an active participant in pro-Palestinian activities, such as the Third International Conference of Solidarity with Palestine held in Yemen in March (video).
