Morocco Rocked by Youth-Led Protests — What is Known so Far?
▪ Demonstrations have been reportedly taking place in dozens of cities across the country since September 27;
▪ Protesters are demanding reform of the education system and health services, local media said;
▪ The online collective Gen Z 212 is believed to be behind the mobilization;
▪ Most demonstrators are young people aged 18 to 22;
▪ Administrative buildings, banks, and shops have been looted or vandalized in several cities in the Souss region, as well as in Oujda, according to the Interior Ministry spokesperson;
▪ As of Wednesday, more than 400 people had been arrested during the protests, the ministry said;
▪ Two people died on Wednesday from gunshot wounds in Lqliaa. Gendarmes used their weapons to repel an attack by groups of individuals on their premises, according to a state-owned news agency.
