Russia Assumes UN Security Council Presidency in October
Vasily Nebenzya, Russia's permanent representative, will present the work program at a press conference at UN Headquarters on Wednesday.
ROTATION
▪ Russia succeeds South Korea and will hand over to Sierra Leone in November.
▪ Last Russian presidency: July 2024.
ROLES OF THE PRESIDENT
▪ Establish the monthly schedule.
▪ Coordinate unscheduled meetings.
▪ Manage the order of meetings.
RUSSIA'S POSITION ON THE UN CHARTER
▪ Putin: All global and regional issues must be resolved based on the UN Charter.
▪ Lavrov: All countries must fully comply with the UN Charter, rather than cherry-picking certain provisions based on their preferences.
