Zimbabwe Launches Community Share Ownership Trust Framework for Economic & Rural Development: Minister
The Community Share Ownership Trusts (CSOTs) implementation framework will ensure communities benefit from natural resource extraction through revenue sharing, Information Minister Jenfan Muswere said.
Companies already complying with existing dividend payment laws will continue operations, while new entrants will be subject to the updated requirements, he noted.
The implementation framework rests on six key pillars:
🟠a shift towards the Community Economic Empowerment Trusts (CEETs),
🟠the One District One CEET Initiative,
🟠revenue sharing,
🟠rural industrialization and local enterprise development,
🟠governance and administration,
🟠institutional capacity building.
The CEETs align with the government's rural industrialization strategy, Muswere noted.
These trusts aim to attract investment, particularly in agro-processing, by leveraging local agriculture and newly established Village Business Units. Communities will also receive support to establish industrial parks in partnership with district collaborators.
