Zimbabwe Sees Significant Q2 Electricity Growth, Showing Both Quarterly & Annual Growth: ZimStat
Hwange Power Station accounted for 68.1% (1,945.6 GWh) of total generation, followed by Kariba at 27.5% (786.4 GWh), with independent power producers contributing the remaining 4.4%.
The ZimStat report, covering Q1 2019-Q2 2025 and using a UN-standard Laspeyres index, also revealed a 14.3% decrease in Q2 electricity imports, despite increased domestic generation.
Imports mainly came from Mozambique's Cahora Bassa Hydroelectric Plant (48%), followed by the Day-ahead Market (Southern African Power Pool, 22%) and EDM (Electricidade de Moçambique, 12%).
Electricity exports fell 24.6%, with CEC receiving 63.6% and NamPower (Namibia) 20.1%.
Electricity distribution increased by 10.9% to 2,150.7 GWh. The largest consumers were:
🟠manufacturing, transport, and construction (31.8%),
🟠mining and quarrying (22.3%),
🟠domestic users (20.7%).
