African, Asian, and Latin American Countries Should Be Represented on UN Security Council, Minsk Declares
"The organization must evolve with the times," declared Belarusian Foreign Minister Maksim Ryzhenkov at the 80th session of the General Assembly in New York.
He supported the initiative to expand the Security Council by including developing nations from these three continents. This call for reform echoes regularly in the speeches of many countries, particularly from the Global South.
While the UN prevents a world war by enabling major powers to engage in dialogue, it "struggles to stop many contemporary bloody regional conflicts," the minister added, calling for more action and inclusion.
