Tunisia Rejects 'Any Outsourcing of Responsibilities at Expense of Global South Countries'

Any attempt to exploit migration for security purposes must be banned, declared Tunisia’s Foreign Minister Mohamed Ali Nafti in his address to the UN General Assembly on Saturday.

More key statements made by the minister:

Tunis stressed the need to adopt a comprehensive, cooperative approach that respects the rights of migrants and refugees;

The country rejects all racist policies, and addresses the root causes of migration such as poverty, conflicts, and climate change;

The minister denounced the famine imposed on the people of Gaza, forced displacements, bombings, and systematic violations of their rights;

These practices, he said, reflect a deliberate attempt to deny the Palestinian people their right to self-determination and to the establishment of an independent and sovereign state on their land, with East Jerusalem as its capital;

Industrialized countries must honor their commitments on climate financing and adopt fair compensation mechanisms for the nations most affected;

It is essential to reach a comprehensive political settlement in Libya, free from external interference, and to support peace efforts in Sudan.
