Cabo Verde’s Key Statements at the 80th UN General Assembly
🟡UN at 80 & Multilateralism
The world faces wars, humanitarian crises, extremism, climate disruption, and “post-truth” politics.
Praised the UN80 Initiative as a chance to renew multilateralism.
Urged urgent Security Council reform, in line with Africa’s common position.
🟡Women & Equality
Welcomed revitalization of the Commission on the Status of Women.
“SDG acceleration depends on the empowerment of women.”
🟡Oceans, Climate & SIDS Leadership
Ratified the BBNJ Agreement on marine biodiversity and celebrated entry into force of the Fisheries Subsidies Agreement.
Called for operationalizing the Multidimensional Vulnerability Index, debt-for-climate swaps, and the Loss and Damage Fund.
Demanded ambitious commitments at COP30 in Belém:
“1.5°C is not a claim—it is survival. For All, All, All.”
🟡Peace & Security
Condemned coups, terrorism, genocide, and violations of territorial integrity.
A just end to the conflict in Ukraine.
A two-state solution for Israel and Palestine.
Stronger action against terrorism and conflict in Africa.
🟡Partnerships & Democracy
Cabo Verde is a stable democracy based on rule of law, freedoms, and openness.
Anchored in ECOWAS, the CPLP, and a special EU partnership.
Works with EU, US, and Brazil on maritime security, anti-trafficking, piracy, illegal fishing, and cybersecurity.
