Zambia’s Economy Expands by 5.2% in Q2 2025, Driven by Agriculture and ICT: State Statistics Agency
The economy's year-on-year growth represents a significant rebound from the 1.9% growth recorded in the same period last year, according to data released by ZamStats.
The strong performance was largely propelled by surges in several key sectors:
🟠Agriculture, forestry, and fishing: 42.9% growth
🟠Information and communication: 20.6% growth
🟠Transportation and storage: 16.4% growth
🟠Mining and quarrying: 10.4% growth
However, some sectors contracted, including water supply, wholesale and retail trade, and electricity supply, ZamStats noted. At current prices, GDP reached K183.1 billion ($7.73 billion), up from K153.9 billion ($6.5 billion) in Q2 2024.
“The data highlights a strong rebound in 2025 despite lingering weaknesses in trade and utilities, with agriculture and ICT emerging as major growth drivers,” said ZamStats head, Sheila Mudenda.
