G20 Need to Focus on Economic Issues, Not Military-Political Matters, Lavrov Urges

According to the Russian FM, this would undermine the prerogatives of the UN and the Security Council. His creed: the G20 must focus on the economy.

"I want to emphasize the vast creative potential of the G20, whose composition reflects contemporary geopolitical realities. It includes both new emerging centers of influence, notably the BRICS countries and the G7 countries," he stressed during the G20 ministerial meeting on the sidelines of the UN General Assembly.

Additionally, Russia desires:

strengthening the voice of Southern countries in the IMF and the World Bank,

revitalizing the WTO's role as a multilateral trade regulator.

The minister also gave a nod to the South African philosophical concept of "Ubuntu" ("I am because we are").
