Africa Deserves Permanent Representation on UNSC, Congolese President Declares at UNGA
Key statements from Denis Sassou Nguesso's speech:
🟠"We call for a reform of UN bodies, starting with the Security Council, to make them more representative, more transparent, and closer to the realities of our world";
🟠The Security Council no longer reflects the geopolitical balance of our world. Therefore, reform is urgent, "not in theory but in practice";
🟠Africa can no longer remain marginalized; it is a continent of the future, of youth, of potential, to which we must guarantee full participation in global decisions;
🟠Similarly, commitments to finance the SDGs and those made under the Paris Agreement on climate must be honored. Mechanisms that strangle vulnerable economies must be ended;
🟠Sassou Nguesso found satisfaction in the adoption of the General Assembly resolution on the World Decade of Reforestation and Afforestation. Climate should not be a new factor of division between the North and the South, but a factor of global unity.
