Int'l Community Must Recognize Genocide of People in Eastern DRC, Congolese President Says
🟠 "The Democratic Republic of Congo is a country of life, natural wealth, and human resilience. We want to contribute to global peace. But peace begins with acknowledging our own tragedy," Fеlix Tshisekedi stated at the UNGA.
🟠 "Recognize the genocide of Congolese people. Support our fight for truth and justice and help us finally build lasting peace at the heart of Africa," he said.
🟠 "This is not just a conflict; it is a silent genocide that has been striking the Congolese people for over 30 years," the president noted.
🟠 The DRC has launched a campaign to gain recognition of the “genocide” committed in its eastern territories by Rwanda and its proxies—an initiative Kigali dismissed as “stupid.”
🟠 He called for the establishment of an independent international inquiry commission "to establish the truth, deliver justice to the victims, and break the cycle of impunity that has fueled this tragedy for decades," as well as UN sanctions against those responsible for "war crimes, crimes against humanity, and genocide committed in the east."
