BRICS is Platform for Africa’s Literary Voice, ZAWWA’a President Says

“The beauty about the whole thing is, much as people are complaining that the reading culture or writing of books is actually going down, looking at the number of people who have come here, we can tell that we can still retrieve it. We can still revive the writing and reading culture,” said Lucille Mudenda, President of the Zambia Women Writers' Association, on the sidelines of the World Public Assembly in Moscow.

With over 62 countries represented, Mudenda emphasized the importance of cultural exchange that respects Africa’s identity:

“The world, let Africa write what they may see. And let the world accept us for the way we are… We are moving at our own pace. So let the world accept us,” she told Sputnik Africa.

She highlighted BRICS as a vital bridge:

“BRICS can be able to give Africa a voice by listening to them, learning from them, and learning about them, about our culture… It’s a two-way thing. We accept them, they accept us.”
