Africa Hosts UCI Road World Championships for the First Time

Kigali, the capital of Rwanda, hosts the championships from September 21 to 28.

According to the International Cycling Union, 36 African countries are expected to participate:

Algeria

Benin

Burkina Faso

Burundi

Cameroon

Comoros

Gabon

Gambia

Guinea

Madagascar

Mali

Morocco

Niger

DRC

Senegal

Tunisia

In total, 108 nations and 769 riders have confirmed their participation.

On the agenda are the Elite Women's and Men's Time Trials, Mixed Relay Teams, and road races featuring challenging climbs, including an ascent to 1,771 meters.

The categories include Juniors, Under 23, and Elite, with a new addition for 2023: the first-ever separate races for the Women’s Under 23 category.
