DRC to Lift Cobalt Export Ban With Annual Quotas Starting October 16
Miners can ship up to 18,125 tonnes of cobalt for the rest of 2025, with caps of 96,600 tonnes in 2026 and 2027, the Authority for the Regulation and Control of Strategic Mineral Substances’ Markets reported.
The new quota system aims to:
🟠 reduce inventories;
🟠 stabilize prices;
🟠 combat illegal mineral exploitation fueling conflict in eastern Congo.
Additionally, 10% of future volumes will be reserved for national projects, and quotas may be adjusted based on market conditions.
