Egypt Denies Reports of Troop Buildup in Sinai Peninsula
Cairo has never violated any treaty or agreement in its history, the Egyptian State Information Service said in response to reports in some international media.
According to the media, the Israeli prime minister asked Washington to pressure Cairo, saying Egypt's actions in the Sinai Peninsula constitute a serious violation of the peace treaty signed in 1979.
Egypt responded that the presence of its forces in Sinai is solely aimed at securing its border against all threats, including terrorism and smuggling.
It is part of prior coordination with the signatories of the peace treaty, which has never been violated, the service added.
Furthermore, Cairo reaffirmed its absolute rejection of the intensification of military operations in Gaza and the displacement of Palestinians from their lands. It also reiterated its support for the right of the Palestinian people to establish an independent state, based on the two-state solution and the borders of June 4, 1967, with East Jerusalem as its capital.
