Mauritius PM Urges Central Bank Governor to Resign
Governor Rama Sithanen’s position had become "untenable" after internal disputes at the Bank of Mauritius, Prime Minister Navin Ramgoolam said on Saturday.
The row followed Deputy Governor Gerard Sanspeur’s resignation on August 29, after he accused Sithanen’s son of meddling in staffing, banking licenses, and tender processes—claims Sithanen denied.
A new second deputy governor will be appointed Monday, with a new governor to follow.
