The Arctic Produces About 6% of Russia's GDP and About 10% of Its Exports: Minister
The region's contribution to the Russian economy is expected to grow, especially in sectors like gas, rare earth metals, and fertilizers, according to Alexey Chekunkov, head of the Ministry for the Development of the Far East and Arctic.
Economic incentives, including preferential regimes, have spurred over 1,000 new projects in the Arctic, attracting over 2.5 trillion rubles (almost $30 billion) in investments, the minister noted.
"Undoubtedly, any development of cities and businesses must be balanced with environmental well-being, and I confirm, we can take pride in the Russian Federation’s approach to the fragile ecosystem of the Russian Arctic," he said.
