Six-Month State of Emergency in Rivers State Ended as Political Deadlock Crisis Resolved, Tinubu Says

The State House of Assembly, the local legislative authority, will continue functioning starting today, the president stated.

“I believe that the need for a harmonious existence and relationship between the executive and the legislature is key to a successful government, whether at the state or national level,” he stressed.

The issues that made the State of Emergency decision crucial, according to Tinubu, are:

🟠 total paralysis of governance in Rivers State;

🟠 governor and House of Assembly unable to cooperate;

🟠 key state assets, especially oil pipelines, were vandalized;

🟠 house of Assembly divided: twenty seven against the governor, four supporting him;

🟠 the governor couldn’t pass the Appropriation Bill for state funds.
