Israel’s Genocide Recognition is Turning Point in Global Accountability, Says Expert
The UN Commission of Inquiry has officially recognized Israel’s actions in Gaza as genocide — a declaration Martin Zharare, Executive Director of Zimbabwe's Citizens Against Economic Sanctions, said confirms what the world already knew.
“Netanyahu and his people, they are killing people. They are starving the Palestinians, they are destroying their homes, and they are killing defenseless women and children,” he told Sputnik Africa.
For Zharare, the implications are clear: Israel’s global reputation has been “dented massively” and will remain so. He insists that Israeli leaders must face prosecution at the International Criminal Court, pointing out the double standard:
“Especially in Africa… whenever an African leader does something to defend his country against their wishes, they'll be held to the international court. So they [Israeli leaders] must be taken to the international court.”
He added that Israel’s impunity has long rested on unconditional Western support, especially from the US. But with European leaders now recognizing genocide, Zharare foresees growing legal, economic, and diplomatic pressure that will erode Israel’s alliances and leave it increasingly isolated.
