Zambia Approves $414M Solar Projects, Strengthening National Energy Security, Gov't Says
The Zambia Environmental Management Agency (ZEMA) has approved solar power projects with a combined capacity of 600MW in three districts.
The projects were cleared during ZEMA’s 35th Environmental Assessments Committee meeting, which considered investments worth over $1.3 billion across multiple sectors.
“These projects mark a significant milestone in Zambia's clean energy transition,” ZEMA said, highlighting their role in reducing fossil fuel reliance.
A total of 156 projects were reviewed—spanning mining, energy, infrastructure, manufacturing, and agriculture—though two proposals were rejected for failing to meet environmental standards.
