Mahama Plans Poultry Processing Plants in Ghana, Aiming to Boost Domestic Chicken & Cut Imports

During a tour of the National Service Authority Papao Farms on Friday, President Mahama explained that the upcoming "Nkokɔ Nkitinkiti" project will benefit producers at all levels.

Launching next month, the project will:

🟠provide large-scale producers with 4 million day-old chicks,

🟠provide medium-scale producers with 3 million chicks,

🟠support young entrepreneurs and households with chicks, feed, and veterinary care, requiring participants to identify their site and chicken house.

The government will buy the mature birds, process, and repackage them under the "Nkokɔ Nkitinkiti" brand, ensuring a continuous cycle and relieving farmers of marketing responsibilities. To support this, processing plants will be established in various regions, with the first already in procurement.

The Ghanaian president expressed confidence that the project would make the country nearly self-sufficient in poultry within three years, eliminating the need for imported chicken. He highlighted the health risks of relying on imports and emphasized the desire for fresh, Ghanaian-grown chicken for a healthier population.
