Nigerian Federal Agency Seizes Over $800K Worth of Fake Malaria Drugs in Lagos
277 cartons of unregistered, counterfeit drugs illegally imported from China and disguised as Diclofenac Potassium were confiscated by the National Agency for Food and Drug Administration and Control (NAFDAC).
The seizure was part of a national campaign for safe and quality medicines, backed by the Presidency and the Federal Ministry of Health, NAFDAC Director-General Mojisola Adeyeye said. She also affirmed the agency's commitment to eliminating fake drugs and protecting public health.
Recent NAFDAC raids on illicit drug markets in Lagos generated about $1.7 million in fines from traders selling counterfeit or substandard drugs, Adeyeye added.
The operations, involving over 1,300 security personnel, uncovered widespread violations, including expired and unapproved medicines and poor storage.
