Nigeria’s Crude Oil Losses Drop to 16-Year Low, Regulator Reports

Average daily losses reached 9,600 barrels per day (bpd) between January and July, the Nigerian Upstream Petroleum Regulatory Commission (NUPRC) announced.

"This marks a clear departure from the high-loss years that have long plagued the industry," it said.

The country had been losing crude due to theft and leaks—on average 102,900 bpd in 2021—before the situation began to improve.

According to the NUPRC, several measures contributed to this progress:

▪ security operations;

▪ technical audits;

▪ new evacuation routes.
