Ethiopia to Build Nuclear Power Plant: PM
Ethiopia will invest $30 billion in infrastructure development, including the construction of a nuclear power plant, Ethiopian Prime Minister Abiy Ahmed said on Tuesday.
"Preparatory work for the construction of a nuclear power plant is already underway, the nuclear power plant to operate exclusively for peaceful purposes," Abiy said at the opening ceremony of the Grand Ethiopian Renaissance Dam (GERD).
The prime minister added that the nuclear power plant would be comparable to the GERD hydroelectric dam in terms of scale and significance for Ethiopia.
Abiy also announced plans to build Africa's largest airport with a capacity of 60 million passengers a year, a major gas processing plant, and 1.5 million homes for citizens.
