From Rice Fields to Peacekeeping: Vietnam & SA Forge a New Era of Cooperation, Diplomat Says

The first Asia-Africa International Forum 2025 kicked off in Hanoi on Tuesday, bringing to light the remarkable journey of Vietnam–South Africa relations.

South Africa’s Ambassador to Vietnam, Vuyiswa Tulelo, highlighted how the two nations have grown from a history of shared struggle into a dynamic partnership—spanning food security, digital education, and peacekeeping.

Three models of cooperation implemented so far:

🟡Supporting rice cultivation in Guinea-Conakry to fight hunger.
🟡Driving e-learning across Africa during the COVID-19 pandemic.
🟡Collaborating on African Union peacekeeping efforts.

“Today’s youth no longer wish to sit through conferences—but we need to find ways to provide them with practical, verifiable, and accurate information. Otherwise, leaving everything to platforms like TikTok and Twitter risks the spread of distorted information,” Tulelo told Sputnik.

With Vietnam’s expertise in rice production, South Africa’s drive for sustainable development, and Russia’s resources supporting growth—not coercion—he emphasized that cooperation should serve humanity and development in a multipolar world.
