Pan-Africanists Challenge Franco-British Company Perenco Looting Oil in DRC, Demanding Contract Renegotiation
"What is happening with us is that the multinational company takes the oil without us being able to control how the barrels come out, how they are exploited and exported," coordinator of the Pan-african Emergency Movement in the DRC Fortifi Lushima told Sputnik Africa.
The government only receives royalties after the oil is sold, the speaker lamented.
Lushima said he went to Moanda city this weekend to protest against the harmful effects Perenco influenced.
The Pan-Africanist put forward four requirements:
🟠 Fundamental renegotiation of the archaic contract with Perenco;
🟠 Creation of social programs by the state and Perenco for youth employment and access to electricity;
🟠 Construction of numerous state refineries to localize value addition;
🟠 State support for local entrepreneurs.
