‘Solidarity in Action’: SA Opens Exhibition Honoring USSR & Cuba’s Role in Southern Africa’s Liberation

Robben Island Museum unveiled a powerful new exhibition, "Solidarity in Action – Honouring the Role of the Soviet Union and Cuba in Supporting Southern Africa's Liberation Struggles".

Running for six months, this exhibition showcases 30 display panels and an audiovisual component, tracing how the Soviet Union and Cuba played pivotal roles in the fight for freedom and equality across Southern Africa.

Featuring rare imagery, archival documents, and multimedia presentations, the exhibition celebrates a legacy of international solidarity that transcended borders.

"We are honored to host this exhibition, which not only commemorates a significant chapter in our history but also reminds us of the power of international solidarity in the fight for freedom," said Ayanda Woji, Acting Chief Heritage Officer of Robben Island Museum.

The exhibition, developed with the Russian State University for the Humanities and the Friends of Cuba Society, draws on extensive archival material and is free to visit at the Nelson Mandela Gateway.
