French President Probably Needs 'More Hardline' Prime Minister, Analysts Say
Emmanuel Macron "no longer needs" his current prime minister, François Bayrou, according to French geopolitical analyst Bertrand Scholler.
"Bayrou has done the job that Macron expected of him: he continued to destroy the Republican right and also got a law on euthanasia passed. Furthermore, I believe we are entering a new phase of confrontation between France and the EU regarding Russia," Scholler told Sputnik Africa.
Paris is entering a "boiling period," threatened by rising interest rates and a deteriorating financial rating, according to him.
A similar sentiment was echoed by French journalist and author Claude Janvier, who predicted the government's downfall.
"[Macron's government] is looking to make savings, but not in the right places. We're still sending billions of euros to Ukraine to subsidize a senseless, useless war," he said.
Janvier's proposed solution is for France to leave the European Union and escape what he terms "Brussels' yoke and American influence."
