AU Praises Zimbabwe's Commitment to Increasing Youth & Women's Representation in Leadership & Economic Inclusion
AU Special Advisor Chido Mpemba conveyed the recognition during a meeting with Acting President Constantino Chiwenga in Harare, where she attended the 7th Inter-Generational Retreat of the African Women Leaders Network.
The retreat brought together over 300 women leaders from across Africa to promote dialogue, empowerment, and action on critical issues including:
🟠gender-based violence,
🟠economic participation,
🟠political representation.
Mpemba emphasized that technology, advancement, and transformation are central themes of the retreat. She stressed the need to equip women and youth with 21st-century skills and ensure their access to technology, funding, and economic opportunities.
The retreat also reinforces the AU’s recent summit declaration to adopt and implement the protocol on ending violence against women and girls.
