Tanzania Introduces Nationwide Environment, Waste Management Initiative

The campaign supported by the President’s Office aims to engage households in sustainable waste management, local media reported.

Over 80% of such are expected to be involved in reducing indiscriminate waste disposal, promoting environmental security, and recycling.

With the expected outcome of encouraging collective responsibility and protection of nature, the National Environment Management Council (NEMC) plans to:

🟠promote green jobs,

🟠spread public awareness,

🟠establish special environmental clubs at schools by June 2026.

Tanzania generates up to 20.7 million tonnes of rubbish each year, so it aggravates the functioning of marine systems, damages the infrastructure, and provokes disease outbreaks.

"This situation highlights the need for joint action in addressing waste management challenges in our country," says NEMC's Director of Compliance and Enforcement, Janal Baruti.
