Paving the Way for Blueberry Exports: Zimbabwe Reaches Phytosanitary Agreement With China
The agreement was finalized during Zimbabwean President Emmerson Mnangagwa's visit to China, which coincided with the 80th anniversary of Japan's World War II defeat and a meeting with Chinese President Xi Jinping.
🫐 Zimbabwe's Horticultural Development Council (HDC) hailed the agreement as unlocking access to a rapidly growing global blueberry market.
According to the HDC, as quoted by the media, the scale of exports will depend on:
meeting the new protocol's sanitary requirements;
complying with phytosanitary requirements;
associated costs.
Zimbabwe's blueberry production, already among the world's fastest-growing, is projected to reach 12,000 tonnes in 2025 due to favorable climate conditions and increasing global demand.
