Russian Diamond Mining Company Alrosa Shifts African Focus to Zimbabwe After Angola Exit, CEO Says

CEO Pavel Marynichev noted that the company currently holds 40 exclusive licenses and permits for the promising soil plots in Africa and also works on exploration of cost-effective diamond deposits in Zimbabwe. The prospecting still continues, so Alrosa expects further results and investment perspectives.

"Moreover, we have been cooperating with the Central African Republic, Mozambique, Namibia, and South Africa. We exchange experience and technology and help build an efficient diamond circulation control system," Marynichev highlighted.

Alrosa announced its presence in Zimbabwe in 2019. The country’s officials and representatives of the mining company agreed on opening a subsidiary designed for exploration, prospecting, and extraction of minerals, as well as the potential creation of joint enterprises.

This strategic shift follows the June transfer of Alrosa's 41% stake in its former Angolan operation to Taaden Inc., part of Oman’s sovereign fund.
