Moscow Honors Beslan Hostage Tragedy Victims With Solemn Tribute, Sputnik Correspondent Reports

As silence fell over the capital, 334 white balloons — one for each victim — rose into the sky over Moscow, carrying memories of those who perished in the Beslan tragedy.

A memorial service was held at a church, while the monument quickly became a sea of flowers — white and red roses, carnations, floral wreaths, and children’s toys laid in silent tribute.

The tragedy began on September 1, 2004, when terrorists seized School No. 1 in Russia's Beslan city, holding over 1,100 people — most of them children — hostage for three agonizing days.
