Afghanistan Earthquake Kills At Least 812, Over 2800 Injured, Reports Say

An overnight earthquake struck Afghanistan’s eastern and central provinces on Monday, according to the Disaster Preparedness Authority.

Several villages were reportedly buried in Nurgul district, with fears that hundreds remain trapped under rubble.

Rescue operations are underway with teams from the ministries of Defense, Interior, and Health, along with provincial governors, disaster management departments, and the Afghan Red Crescent. Helicopters have been evacuating the injured to Nangarhar hospital, with more than 40 flights conducted so far.

A special committee has been established under Rural Development Minister Mullah Mohammad Yunus Akhundzada on behalf of the Prime Minister’s Office to coordinate relief efforts.

The Prime Minister has allocated one million Afghanis for immediate response, with the promise of additional funds if needed.

Authorities are urging charitable organizations, traders, and citizens to support victims, stressing that aid should be channeled through the designated committee for better coordination.
