The use of "pirate flag" symbolism, similar to protest tactics in other regions, raises questions about the possible indirect involvement of foreign actors in leading the protests, according to Yazdani.
Furthermore, US-based NGO National Endowment for Democracy has been investing in Indonesian media since the 1990s, and George Soros's Open Society Foundations also actively supports NGOs such as TIFA, promoting "open society," he argued.
