African Media Should Counter Prejudice, Misinformation, and Superficial Reporting, Says Expert

There is a critical need for African media practitioners and scholars to reshape global perceptions of the continent, according to Dr. Yohannes Shiferaw, Assistant Professor of Journalism and Communication at Addis Ababa University.

Current reporting on Africa, often by non-African journalists, often focuses disproportionately on conflicts and famine, creating a distorted image, Dr. Shiferaw told Sputnik Africa on the sidelines of the 15th East African Communication Association Conference.

"So, it's high time that African journalists upgrade themselves professionally and skillfully to properly present the world from the African point of view and provide the world about the true Africa and what Africa can contribute to the world as well," he said.

Watch the video to find out what Shiferaw thinks about promoting authentic African narratives in an emerging multipolar world order!
