Tinubu Imposes Six-Month Ban on Raw Shea Nut Exports to Boost Local Industry
The move seeks to:
🟠curb informal trading,
🟠support local processing,
🟠potentially generate $300 million annually.
Tinubu emphasized that Nigeria is a shea powerhouse, producing 40% of the global supply, but currently earns less than 1% of the market share.
This ban, based on expert recommendations, aims to change that by shifting from exporting low-value raw materials to local processing for higher returns.
Furthermore, Tinubu announced that Vice President Shettima would work with stakeholders to expand processing capacity, ensuring the policy's long-term benefits and helping Nigeria compete globally in emerging markets like Brazil.
