The detained woman fell victim to deception by Ukraine's security service (SBU) and brought a bomb hidden inside an Orthodox icon to the FSB office, where she was apprehended. The woman had sought to recover money stolen by phone scammers. Instead, she was tricked into involvement in terrorist activities, the FSB noted. In May, someone posing as an FSB investigator from the SBU called her, claiming that a Ukrainian citizen listed as a terrorist had taken out loans in her name, and transferred the funds to the Ukrainian army, according to FSB.

"To avoid criminal liability, she took out several loans totaling over 3 million rubles under the criminals’ instructions. […] Later, following orders from her Ukrainian handler, she traveled to Crimea."
