Aerial Tech to Boost Mineral Exploration in Tanzania
The government will deploy a specialized aircraft in 2025/26 to survey six mineral-rich blocks covering over 100,000 sq km—about 18% of Tanzania’s land.
Equipped with advanced imaging, the aircraft can probe up to one kilometer deep to identify deposits.
The initiative aligns with Vision 2030, which seeks to expand surveyed land from 16% to 50%, Minerals Minister Anthony Mavunde stated.
"We want the mining economy to be fully owned by Tanzanians. Our vision is to see more Tanzanians benefiting and becoming prosperous through the mining sector," Mavunde said.
Officials and industry leaders hailed reforms but raised concerns about heavy local taxation and short license terms for small-scale miners.
