Ethiopia Prepares for AfCFTA Trade Launch, Invites Russian Investors to Access Continental Market, State Minister Says

The East African country has officially published its plan for tariff concessions — the final step to start trading under the African Continental Free Trade Area (AfCFTA) next month, State Minister for External Economic Cooperation Yasmin Wohabrebbi told Sputnik Africa.

The country is aligning border protocols and simplifying trade procedures to integrate into the market of 1.4 billion people. Ethiopia is also advancing its World Trade Organization (WTO) accession, aiming for full membership by 2026.

"We really encourage the Russian investors also to come and invest in Ethiopia. Beyond the AfCFTA, there are also great opportunities, be it in the energy, be it in our policies and easy of doing business, be it in raw material access in some of our other industries," Wohabrebbi stated.

What benefits will Ethiopia gain from joining the AfCFTA? Watch the full interview to hear Wohabrebbi’s insights!
