Famine in Gaza: ‘If We Leave Things as They Are, We Will Face Powerful Humanitarian Tsunami’
This famine "is a man-made crisis, created by Israel, which has blocked the entry of humanitarian aid and prevented the UN from distributing food," Adnan Abu Hasna, spokesperson for UNRWA in Gaza, told Sputnik.
The alert comes from the Integrated Food Security Phase Classification, managed by the UN, which has officially declared the city of Gaza, as well as areas in the south and center of the enclave, to be in a state of famine.
Adnan Abu Hasna hopes this urgent warning will "change the world’s perspective on the situation in the Gaza Strip and force Israel to open the crossing point to prevent the spread of this famine."
"The situation is extremely serious," he emphasized. "The current delivery of aid is completely unacceptable. It is essential to ensure the entry of 600 trucks of aid daily, open the crossing points, and allow the entry of food, supplies, field hospitals, medicines, nutritional supplements, water, and fuel."
