Zimbabwe's Victoria Falls Airport Breaks Passenger Records

Zimbabwe's Victoria Falls Airport Breaks Passenger Records
The airport is experiencing record-breaking passenger growth, driven by government efforts to position Zimbabwe as a prime destination for large-scale events.
Annual Passenger Traffic according to the Airports Company of Zimbabwe:
2019 (Pre-Pandemic): 374,208
2020 & 2021 (Pandemic): Fell below 70,000
2022 (Recovery): 219,308
2023: 390,010 (Surpassed 2019 levels)
2024: 505,426
2025 (Jan-July): 287,597 (A 17.5% increase over the same period in 2024)
Officials attribute the boom to:
▫a strategy of attracting new airlines and increasing flight frequencies – a proactive "grid development" initiative;
▫a major upgrade to the airport's capacity in 2016;
▫a surge in international conferences and tourism.
In addition, a recent global convention and the launch of a new domestic flight route were key immediate drivers of the record-breaking numbers, according to local media.
