Former Malian Prime Minister Jailed for Embezzlement of Public Funds Estimated at Several Billion CFA Francs
Choguel Kokalla Maiga was placed under a detention order by the Supreme Court on Tuesday after a week in police custody.
The General Prosecutor's Office at the Supreme Court announced that a large-scale judicial investigation has been opened concerning serious alleged crimes.
They involve public officials and economic operators linked to:
The management of the budget of the Prime Minister's Office (Primature) between 2021 and 2024,
Contracts awarded under the partnership agreement between the Agency for the Execution of Rural Infrastructure and Equipment Works (AGETIER) and the Prime Minister's Office.
These allegations include:
▪Forgery and use of forged documents,
▪Embezzlement of public funds / Misappropriation of public assets,
▪Money laundering,
▪Various charges of complicity.
Accused of embezzling public funds following an audit of his management of the Prime Minister's Office (2021-2024), Maiga was incarcerated after his hearing.
