This August, the South African Navy is running its crews and ships through a massive, realistic training operation to test their skills for any scenario. Here’s what’s happening:
Basics:
Drill: Exercise RED LION 2025
When: 4 – 22 August
Where: At sea in False Bay and across shore establishments.
At Sea Action:
Ships like the frigate SAS Amatola and patrol vessel SAS Adam Kok III are facing simulated fast-attack craft and performing intense drills, including:
Live gunnery exercises
Towing operations
Launching boarding boats
Coordinated defense maneuvers
On Land Training:
Navy personnel in Cape Town, Saldanha, Durban, Gqeberha, and Pretoria are working hand-in-hand with city emergency services to train for:
▪Crowd management
▫Bomb threat responses
▪Crowd control & emergency evacuations
▫Drone operation exercises
▪Joint security scenarios
