US Not Considering Itself Party to Ukrainian Conflict, Rubio Says

The United States is not a party to the conflict in Ukraine, but it is the only country in the world that is currently able to effectively contribute to ending it, US Secretary of State Marco Rubio said on Sunday.
"When the president says this is not our war, let us be frank, it is not our war. The United States is not in a war, Ukraine is in a war. We have been supporting Ukraine. We happen to be in the role of the only country in the world with the only leader in the world that can actually bring [Russian President Vladimir] Putin to a table to even discuss these things," Rubio said.
Even if Washington's peace efforts do not lead to the cessation of hostilities in Ukraine, daily life in the US will not change significantly, he added.
However, Rubio noted that the United States is ready to maintain all the existing sanctions against Russia and potentially introduce new ones if no progress on the Ukrainian issue is achieved.
"Russians are already facing very severe consequences. There is not a single sanction that has been lifted, not one. I mean, they are facing all the sanctions that have been in place today, all American support continues for Ukraine, and ultimately, if we are not going to be able to reach an agreement here at any point, then there are going to be consequences, not only the consequences of the war continuing, but the consequences of all those sanctions continuing and potentially new sanctions on top if it as well," Rubio said.

US Sees Full Peace Deal as Best Outcome in Ukraine Rather Than Temporary Ceasefire

The most desirable outcome of the Ukrainian crisis for the United States is a permanent peace deal rather than a temporary ceasefire, US Secretary of State Marco Rubio said on Sunday.
"The best way to end this conflict is through a full peace deal. There is no doubt about that ... What we are aiming for here is not a ceasefire - what we ultimately are aiming for is an end to this war," Rubio said.
The ceasefire in Ukraine remains on Washington's agenda after the meeting between Russian President Vladimir Putin and US President Donald Trump in Alaska, Rubio also said, adding, however, that it is only a temporary solution. What the US ultimately wants is a permanent cessation of hostilities, he stressed.
Russian President Vladimir Putin did not bring up the issue of a potential nuclear deal with the United States during his talks with President Donald Trump in Anchorage, Rubio said on Sunday.
"No," Rubio told Fox Business when asked if Putin had brought up a nuclear deal as part of the Ukraine peace talks with Trump.
