Zimbabwe's Crocodile Farming Industry Boosts Economy Through High-Quality Skin Exports
In 2023, crocodile skin exports surged by 56% (from $22 million to $34 million), supporting approximately 1,600 jobs, Veterinary Services Director Pious Makaya said.
Makaya noted that
the government is now looking to expand production and tap into new global markets,
the sector’s potential alongside aquaculture and edible insects are key emerging industries for Zimbabwe,
it is important to ensure the safety of exported crocodile products.
With plans to expand into areas like Kariba, the industry is poised for even greater growth—helping boost foreign exchange earnings and drive Zimbabwe’s economic prosperity.
