Ghana Eases Commercial Driver Licensing With New Initiative
The West African country's Driver and Vehicle Licensing Authority (DVLA) launched a new initiative that brings licensing services directly to commercial drivers at transport terminals nationwide.
What’s new? Without the need to visit a DVLA office, drivers can now:
Renew, replace, or apply for new licenses
Convert foreign licenses to Ghanaian ones
Get international permits
Upgrade license categories
According to DVLA Chief Executive Julius Neequaye Kotey, the project aims to:
- improve customer convenience,
- streamline operations in the transport sector,
- encourage proper licensing and regular renewals (including vision tests).
The initiative, which has been praised by drivers for saving time and money, will initially cover 15 terminals and is expected to expand to more locations across the country.
