UAE Reiterates Support for Sudanese Peace Amid Accusations of Complicity With Rebel RSF
The United Arab Emirates’ Foreign Ministry emphasized its dedication to fostering dialogue and mobilizing international support for initiatives addressing the humanitarian crisis and building sustainable peace in the North African country.
This statement comes amidst accusations from Sudan, embroiled in conflict between its army and the RSF since April 2023, against the UAE, which Abu Dhabi has labeled as "unfounded accusations and deliberate propaganda."
Tensions escalate as Sudan takes legal action:
In May, Sudan cut diplomatic ties with the UAE after filing a lawsuit at the International Court of Justice (ICJ), accusing Abu Dhabi of supporting the RSF and enabling alleged war crimes in Darfur. The court dismissed the case, citing lack of jurisdiction.
In late July, Sudan's ambassador to Russia, Mohammed Elghazali Eltigani Sirrag, told Sputnik Africa that the UAE's calls for dialogue in Sudan are "unrealistic" and "not comprehensible" amid its "complicity in RSF crimes" against the Sudanese people.
