'Whistle Has Been Blown' — Tanzanian President Opens Ruling Party's Election Race
Samia Suluhu Hassan officially kicked off the election campaign by collecting her nomination forms from the electoral commission, the Chama Cha Mapinduzi (CCM) party said.

"Over the next five years, as we implement Vision 2050, we will achieve even greater milestones. […] This election is not just a personal journey or one for CCM alone, but for all Tanzanians. It is a moment for citizens to choose a party with dignity and a real plan to build a sustainable economy," local media quoted her as saying.
The president also reportedly urged unity within the CCM "to ensure a landslide victory."
"Even if 1,000 candidates enter the race, CCM has nothing to fear," CCM Deputy Chair Steven Wassira was quoted as saying.
The presidential election campaign will last from August 28 to October 28, with polls scheduled for October 29.
